Rotana initially started his career in health as a fitness instructor and personal trainer in 2001, helping people become the best versions of themselves they could be. Deciding that he enjoyed working with the human body so much, he continued his education in 2004 with a Diploma of Remedial Massage. This gave him insight into the workings of the human body particularly in dealing with acute & chronic work related injuries. After several years of working in both fields, he was offered the opportunity to become a lecturer at the Australian Institute of Fitness and Australian Institute of Massage (now known as Sage Institute of Massage) in 2006, becoming the head lecturer of massage in 2007.

In 2014, he completed his further education by studying a Bachelor’s of Health Science in Clinical Myotherapy. He lectured in Musculoskeletal Pathology at Victoria University through 2014.

Common conditions treated include:

– overuse injury such as tennis elbow or shin splints
– common sports injuries (wrist & ankle strains)
– tension headaches
– pain caused by poor posture (back & neck pain)
– some types of chronic back pain
– some types of joint pain, such as shoulder impingement syndrome
– joint dysfunctions (shoulder & knee pain)
– bio-mechanical dysfunctions (shin splints & plantar fasciitis)

A point of difference with Clinical Myotherapy is that it uses a Biopsychosocial approach to assessment and treatment. This is a holistic approach that examines you as a whole rather than just a single condition. Health and optimum function is achieved when biological, psychological and social factors area addressed. This approach allows for tailored treatments of the individual with more effective and longer lasting treatment outcomes.
Treatment techniques that are used can include:
– Deep Tissue Massage techniques
–Trigger Points
– Joint Mobilisation
– Myofascial Dry Needling
– Electro-therapies
– Thermotherapy
– Prescriptive Exercises

Preventative pain management advice is then prescribed to prevent your pain from returning, helping you stay pain free and functioning optimally.
Clinical Myotherapy can help reduce muscle tension, manage stress, improve sleep, increase activity performance through joint strengthening, flexibility & mobility, reduce the risk of injuries and help manage the symptoms associated with soft tissue pain. Symptoms of soft tissue pain can include:
– deep and constant aching
– muscle tightness
– sore spots in the muscle (myofascial trigger points)
– reduced joint mobility
– stiff joints
– numbness
– recurrent tingling, prickling or ‘pins and needles’ sensation
– unexplained tiredness
